CITY ESTABLISHES AD HOC LONG RANGE BUDGET AND PLANNING COMMITTEE

With the projected limited increases in tax collection and other revenue sources, current trends indicate the City’s current financial model is not sustainable. In order to maintain a balanced and viable budget, the City’s future revenues need to increase or expenditures must be reduced.

In January, the City Commission established an ad hoc Long Term Budget and Planning Committee with the following charge:

1. Develop an understanding of municipal budgeting and finances;
2. Identify impediments to long-term positive financial health;
3. Provide recommendations on long-term capital improvement plans to reconstruct the remaining roads and make necessary sewer repairs; and
4. Recommend revenue and expenditure modifications to achieve long-term positive financial health.

The Committee will be comprised of 15 - 20 residents and in keeping with past practice, the City Commission will interview interested residents before making appointments. More information on the Committee is available by calling Amy Sullivan at 248.581.2632 or emailing asullivan@hwmi.org.

Interested residents should fill out an application and return it no later than Friday, February 2nd. Applications can be dropped off or mailed to City Hall or emailed to asullivan@hwmi.org. Applications can also be left in the drop box in the City Hall parking lot.
