Huntington Woods Public Safety receives Fourth Accreditation award from Commission for Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (C.A.L.E.A.)
The Huntington Woods Public Safety Department has for the fourth time been recognized as one of the nation’s elite by the Commission for Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). It is the third reaccreditation award for the department since the initial accreditation in 2006.
On Saturday, March 21, 2015, Huntington Woods Director of Public Safety Andrew Pazuchowski and Lieutenant Ben Zawacki appeared before the Commission in Reno, Nevada at the spring conference. The Commission made its decision after a team of CALEA assessors spent four days in November 2014 conducting an on-site review of the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Considered one of the highest honors in law enforcement standards, the CALEA re-accreditation identifies Huntington Woods Department of Public Safety internationally recognized level of professional excellence in law enforcement management and service.
As part of the on-site inspection process, the CALEA assessment team visited the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department and rode along with officers. The CALEA assessors also conducted a public information session where members of the public were invited to make comments regarding the police department.
The Huntington Woods Public Safety Department was first awarded CALEA accreditation in 2006. Accreditation is affective for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited. The agency remains the first and only department to be nationally accredited in Oakland County.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement's major executive associations. There are approximately 900 police agencies accredited by CALEA in all of the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
